Worship In The Ruins
In this next series, "Oh, The Places We'll Go," we took a little inspiration from one of the great Dr. Seuss books. We’re going to explore the Book of Acts and follow the disciples as the Holy Spirit led them in ministry across the entire Mediterranean world. The church in Acts was neither quiet nor passive. Those early Christians gave their lives serving Christ! As a part of this series, the pastors will be going places across Green Country Oklahoma to explore places where God’s hand is still at work.
This week our journey took us to Vernon Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church on Greenwood Avenue, in Tulsa. This was the only church standing in the Greenwood district following the May 31, 1921 race riot/massacre. We were warmly welcomed by the congregation and are so appreciative of those fellow Christians teaching us somethings that we needed to know, even though it was hard to hear.
